Taming the Mess: How to Master the Household To-Do List

Updated: Jul 9

Hey Mama,

Let’s be real: the idea that we’re supposed to have it all together is a total joke! Finding time to squeeze everything into our busy days is nearly impossible! If you feel like you're drowning in to-dos, trust me, that's normal! Between managing the home, the kids, their extracurricular activities, work, trying to fit in exercise, eating well, and maybe, just maybe, having a social life—being a mom these days is hard!

I've talked to hundreds of moms over the years, and every single one has the same story: they're drowning in laundry, dishes, and endless clutter. It's somewhat comforting to know we all have that in common. But the truth is, the clutter creates a constant visual reminder of tasks left unfinished, which can lead to stress and anxiety in our busy mom life. The perpetual cycle of to-dos leaves us exhausted and unmotivated. And, I mean this nicely, but you can't be the best mom or wife if you aren't the best YOU first. Getting a grip on your mile-long to-do list is step one in rebalancing the chaos and truly enjoying motherhood.

Now, imagine this: you get home from a playdate and walk into a home that’s neat and clean. The dishwasher has been emptied, dinner has been prepped, and the laundry magically folded and put away. The feeling you get is instant calmness, am I right? When your environment is in order, it's easier to concentrate on the moment in front of you. This leads to a more joyful day, which in turn propels you forward to doing the things you keep meaning to do. Whether that's getting back to the gym, playing with your kids more, or re-establishing date night. Without the distraction of mess and disorganization, you suddenly have a sense of control and accomplishment, leading to feelings of happiness and satisfaction.
